About Camp Kindness - A Camp Community for Grieving Families
The Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Centre has a long history of providing specialized support and programming to meet the unique needs of grieving children, youth and families. We have long recognized the deep need of grieving families to find each other and connect in a community that understands without explanation. In 2019, with the generous support of the Just Do Kindness Foundation, the Centre was finally able to move this dream into action and launch its first camp program for grieving families, Camp Kindness, named to honour the spirit of Julianna Despina Kozis and the kindness she embodied in life.
Camp Kindness is a 2 day bereavement camp for families with children aged 0-21 to come together to access the light, connection and community that grieving families need. Activities focus on providing grieving families with the tools needed to help them in their grief and with difficult experiences throughout their lives, while enhancing overall wellness, play and vitality. All activities are facilitated by our grief counsellors and trained volunteers.
Camp Kindness is open to any family with a child/children who have experienced the death of an immediate family member or custodial caregiver, regardless of cause or length of time since the death and strives to create an environment that honours and reflects the diversity of individuals and families in our communities.
Camp Kindness 2020 will be taking place the weekend of August 15-16 2020 at the amazing Camp Green Acres in Markham. Registration will launch in the New Year. We look forward to seeing many campers and families at camp this summer!
