DJCGC Community Updates
April 13, 2020 COVID-19 Update from the DJCGC
To Our Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Centre Community,
As you continue to manage this time of uncertainty, disruption and anxiety, we want to remind you that while the doors to our Centre at 250 Davisville Ave are physically closed, we are still here with you and wanted to share an update about Centre programs and services.
Face-to-face services continue to be unavailable until further notice, however, we have shifted our counselling services to virtual and phone-based supports for current clients. Our Referral and Intake process continues to be open to receive new referrals with modified services being provided to new clients because of group event and programming cancellations for Spring and Summer 2020. We are mindful of the impact that these temporary changes and related cancellations will have and are busy exploring new ways to build and sustain connection and community for the grieving children, youth and families we serve. Please continue to watch our social media streams for new content, like our new Brief Grief series on YouTube – stay tuned for further innovations and creative offerings. Although in a different form, we will continue to be here with you on this journey as you continue to meet this challenge with the immense courage and love we know you carry within you.

To Read Previous Updates
With the rapidly developing COVID-19 situation, the Centre is closed to all in-person visits. There will be no on-site services provided effective until further notice, at which time we will reassess the situation and update accordingly. All direct in-person programming (individual and group) and on-site meetings are on hold until further notice. We will continue to monitor the situation and update the community through our website, email and social media.
We are still accepting new referrals and conducting preliminary intake sessions over the phone and via Zoom.
Please note that we now only accept online referral forms available on our website. If you have sent us a completed referral form, a member of our intake team will be in touch within 10 business days to set up an initial phone call.
For existing clients, we are offering remote counselling sessions for caregivers, teens and via phone and/or Zoom. Please contact your Centre counsellor.
The DJCGC Team
As we continue to closely monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation, we wanted to reach out to each of you with an update about changes related to the Centre’s upcoming programming calendar.
The DJCGC is committed to the health and wellbeing of all of our clients, volunteers and staff and as such, we have made the hard decision to suspend all in-person programs until further notice.
These cancellations include:
- Camp Erin Toronto 2020 events
- Peer Support Groups
- Upcoming Family Nights
Increasing connection, supporting family communication and reducing isolation have always been foundational to service decisions and program development at the DJCGC and are values that will continue to guide our actions. Our clinical team will continue to provide counselling to our client community by phone and virtual support when appropriate.
As a small charitable organization with limited resources and no government funding, continuing to meet the diverse needs of more than 500 clients each year poses a significant challenge to the Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Centre. If you’re able and willing to support our efforts through this difficult time, please consider donating https://drjaychildrensgriefcentre.ca/donate/ or fundraising for us as we innovate and explore creative ways to connect to our community and provide support.
We will also continue to provide the community with updates, information and helpful resources via our website and through social media on a regular basis- so stay tuned! If you have any questions about our activities, please check out our website and social media streams for updates.
We will get through this together.
Sending warmth and light,
The Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Centre
