Youth Program

With generous support provided by KRG Children's Foundation, the Dr. Jay Children's Grief Centre offers a support group for bereaved youth between the ages of 13-18 years old. The goal of the program is to create a supportive environment where grieving adolescents have the opportunity to connect with same aged peers who are also grieving the death of a family member. Youth share tYouthProgram1heir thoughts and feelings about grief while connecting with peers going through similar experiences.

Through a variety of activities such as art, music, drama and sport the group members work together to share and express their individual grief experiences while supporting each other as they connect with the memory of their loved ones. In addition to peer support and access to individual counselling, participants are also offered opportunities to develop and enhance their leadership skills through a Leaders in Training (LIT) program.

Following LIT training, youth put their newfound skills of mentorship, leadership and support into action at our annual Camp Erin ToroYouthnto. LITs are paired with cabin leaders to support younger campers through their grief experience across the camp weekend. This LIT program is unique among all other Camp Erins in North America, and year after year proves to be an effective model of peer support, leadership development and community building.
